and what is not

The letter

If you subscribe, your email address is stored with the newsletter provider used to send the letter, and is used for exactly that. It is never sold, rented, or shared. Every letter carries a one-click unsubscribe, which removes the address entirely.

Analytics

Aggregate, anonymous page counts are recorded, with your consent, so it is possible to know which pieces are worth writing more of. This uses Google Analytics: it assigns an anonymous identifier to your browser to see how visitors move through the site, but that identifier is never linked to your name or email address. Nothing loads until you accept the cookie prompt on your first visit, and you can decline it entirely. No advertising networks are embedded, and analytics data is not sold.

Cookies

The site stores your colour and dark-mode preference locally in your own browser so it survives a reload. That value never leaves your device and is not a tracking cookie. If you accept the analytics prompt, Google Analytics sets its own cookies to recognize your browser across pages; declining, or simply not responding to the prompt, means those cookies are never set.

Third parties

Fonts are served by Google Fonts and pages are hosted on a commercial web host; both necessarily see your IP address in the course of delivering the page.

The newsletter sign-up form on the home page is provided by Hostinger Reach, the service used to send the letter. When the home page loads, it fetches that form from Reach and runs a Cloudflare check to block spam sign-ups; both see your IP address in doing so, and the email address you submit is stored with Reach for the letter. This runs only on the home page. Google Analytics, described above under Analytics, now runs on every page instead, gated behind the same consent prompt.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from any letter, at any time, with one click.
• Ask for a copy of anything held about you, or ask for it deleted, via the contact page.
• Block cookies and local storage in your browser; the site works fine without them.
